Where did the idea come from for Pop of Paper?
Both Kim and I were colleagues at Kimpton Hotels and lost our jobs due to COVID in the spring of 2020. We quickly discovered we both had a shared passion for decorating and events. After discussing how much perfectly good decor is thrown away after a single celebration we recognized a gap in the marketplace. The biggest trend in celebratory decor is the balloon garland so we began to recreate them with paper honeycomb balls and the “paper balloon garland” was born as Pop of Paper co’s signature offering.
Tell us about the business?
Pop of Paper co is a sustainable paper decor company specializing in paper balloon garlands and custom paper decor. All of our decor is made from paper and reused until it can’t be anymore, then recycled! The company also offers seasonal kid decor boxes called POP Boxes that are filled with paper based premade decorations, crafts and fun items that inspire kids to create and decorate the space around them. POP Boxes were inspired by our two young daughters that love to help us decorate during the holidays.
What areas do you service?
Our paper decor services are targeted towards the western suburbs but we travel all over Chicagoland including downtown and the North Shore! POP Boxes can be shipped anywhere in the continental U.S.
What’s your most popular product or service?
The paper balloon garlands are our signature and most requested for events; however people are discovering our custom work and we’re getting more inquiries for unique items like pomped logos/names/numbers and hanging paper wisteria.
POP Boxes have taken off as well. Right now our July 4th Box is on sale -perfect for an indoor activity this summer during those “too hot to be outside” days or rainy days.
We also offer birthday boxes which are little celebrations in a box for up to 4 people and include a couple of fun crafts. Customers can actually purchase the birthday boxes for Ronald McDonald House – our charity partner – to gift a family staying there. The boxes help put a smile on the face of a child who may be celebrating a birthday at their home away from home. In addition, we donate any surplus of boxes each season to Ronald McDonald House so they can have crafts/activities on hand for the families staying there.
